Especially then. What souls gets realistic is the sizing up the enemy before clashing. Our flights usually were: pace back and forth together waiting for an opportunity/bait with an opportunity. Then execution of each person’s plan was over in a flash and either one landed a hit or you separated again, going back to pacing. But a plan of a person usually was not a single hit unless you were just probing for their reaction.
For example my favourite thing to do, was lowering the point of my sword (you usually start with tips touching uwu), baiting the opponent to attack the opposite side of were my tip was moving, the snapping the tip back up to hit the opponents incoming sword close to the handle, transferring a lot of kinetic energy into a fairly static part of their blade, thus moving their hands and influencing their whole arc such that their blade passes over me. Now i have to be very quick to attack them while repositioning into a new defensible line towards them to not get hit by their hit after recovery. This whole interaction would take about a second or less maybe.
Then there’s also the thing not really represented in souls at all which is driving your opponent through the hall. So if you attack and your opponent does only manage to block, you sometimes keep going to not give them the time to counter attack, and each swing carries you quite far which causes them to have to walk backwards very fast, to keep in blocking distance and not get into grapple range. This phrase usually has 3-4 hits a second and is quite tiring but being the one attacking usually is the winning move while the defending person has to get creative to get back into the attacking position.
I now realize that talking about sword fighting in English is quite tiring as i don’t know the terminology outside of German

I still disagree. I’ve done longsword fighting for multiple years and in the time a souls character does two hits with a bastard sword i probably do about 6 and that’s fine. Souls games are designed so that you can react to attacks and not for realism. A falchion in souls is about as fast as a longsword meant for 2 handed irl if not still a bit slower
- Comment on Lies of P is getting difficulty options to make the Soulslike more accessible [VGC] 1 week ago:
That is a really odd comparison because in real life, even 2 handed longswords are very fast and souls like games slow them down a lot. They are not meant for realism at all.

Exactly. It’s completely useless content in the deluxe edition and quite literally the horse armour that normalised the micro transactions. I find it actually kinda funny that they included shivering isles in the base game but kept the horse armour dlc for the meme
- Comment on The secret German plans leaked 1 month ago:
There was hope in the last government but I’m addition to the greens the coalition also contained the liberal party FDP in control of finances and they manipulated the government from within by blocking everything good the rest of the government wanted to do. Their plan to make the greens unliked ended in their own party becoming irrelevant for the future. Also a lot of supposedly Islamic terrorism happened very frequently in the run-up to the election after the government broke apart and shifted the political climate further and further right.
Now after the election put the conservative party in power, the supposedly Islamic terrorism just stopped and nothing happened since 🤔
Couple that with Axel Springer press rags doing hard propaganda against left and green parties and you see why the greens had a hard time

There’s a reason why in my comment i talked about LLMs as bad while saying AI in general has it’s uses. The reason being this post being about LLMs.
I know very well that specialized AI has a lot of uses in medical science and other fields but that’s not really what got hit with all the hype, is it? The hype is managers saw a language model give seemingly better answers to questions than John Rando from 2 blocks down the road so they’re now looking to cut out all the already low paid workers and spoiler alert we will not land in a society where the general public profits from not having work. It will be the same owners of capital profiting as per usual.

Mate LLMs are literally gobbling up energy as if they’re working at a power plant gloryhole. It’s furthering the climate crisis, not solving it. They’re also incapable of logic to make something new so they’re not gonna invent anything. AI in general has it’s uses but LLMs are not the golden goose you should bet on. And profits from them are afaik non existent. They only come from investors thinking it’ll be profitable some day but it’s a way too energy intense process to be profitable

The builds won’t be random but pre set characters with special abilities and Ultimates. They each play quite different. You’ll also find weapons and can put 3 in each hand as per usual but you don’t have to worry about weight

- Comment on Percentages 5 months ago:
I feel they might’ve left something out. If you’re at base value still an additive 100% increase (1+1=2) is better than a multiplicative 25% (1×1.25=1.25) increase but in games where bonuses stack another additive 100% increase would raise the effective value by 50% instead (1+1+1=3) whereas another multiplicative 25% would still raise the total by that much (1×1.25×1.25=1.56) so if you’re stacking a lot of bonuses, eventually the multplicative ones are more effective. As for how many steps it would take to be equal in our example… 1+1×X=1×1.25^X I’m not gonna do this in my bed on my phone but that equation should already tell you that the right side grows faster when X -> infinity

What a load of condescending shit. You’re giving kids not enough credit. Just because folders haven’t been relevant to them some kids don’t know about them, big deal. If they became in some way relevant they could learn about them. If you asked a millennial that never really used a computer they’d probably also not know. I’m fairly sure that people with disabilities know how to use accessibility tools like screen readers.

I’d say they’ve probably long reached the point where they have enough customers around the world to hold the load on their servers fairly constant. The example with one user only taking 5% of a servers load only works for low customer counts, similar to how you can’t count on one wind turbine or solar plant to provide all of your energy but if you have enough of them you can provide a base line of fairly constant energy

Considering Nintendo selling very old games just emulated on their switch for almost full price I’d say people want both new games and their classics. The point is you don’t have to decide which games to get. I play Baldurs Gate 3 but also Age of Wonders 1 or the early Devil May Cry games. I can actually play the whole DMC series on one device while my PS5 is collecting dust as every game costs more there than on PC and I don’t have a big library of games.
Also I’d have to pay way too much money just to be allowed to play online on servers that Sony doesn’t even run. Over the span of 5-10 years I’d have to pay probably around 400-800€ just to play online.
I’m not 100% sure anymore but my pc with an AMD GPU and CPU cost me maybe 1300€ and runs everything i want on highest settings so far. I think the biggest price point on PC is people getting duped by sites like userbenchmark to think they need an Nvidia card that’s ridiculously expensive.
- Comment on Is Dragon's Dogma 2 worth it if I already have the first one? 8 months ago:
If you plan to do main story only, I’d say, go for the 2nd. However the first dragons dogma has bitterblack isles which is a giant dungeon designed to focus on pretty much nonstop action and multiple dives in, each getting further down and delivering powerful gear to help you get even further. It really helps to give you post-game stuff to do and i miss it in dd2 to the point of thinking about going back to the first one just for that part of the game
