People Make Games did a much better job on reporting the issues with Roblox.
- Comment on Risks to children playing Roblox ‘deeply disturbing’, say researchers 3 days ago:
I think the real issue is how Roblox takes advantage of kids lack of knowledge about microtransactions and FOMO to create a generation of free-to-play dupes while also exploiting anyone that makes content for them, but that’s just my opinion.

Him as Harry Mudd would be fantastic, I could also see him as a good Klingon sometime.

- Comment on Are PC handhelds like Steam Deck really competitors for Switch 2? 1 week ago:
Really wild to go from this vibe at the end of the seventh generation of consoles to the one we’re at now. For me, and many other people that like high quality gaming experiences, mobile games have completely vanished.
- Comment on Switch 2 mouse mode (such potential) 2 weeks ago:
The Switch 2 footage of Elden Ring did look better than what I can get out of my Steam Deck. I wouldn’t be surprised if it has a performance advantage (perhaps thanks to native DLSS and frame generation) for the next year or two.

Yeah, that would be wise, but by the same token since Lemmy is a bit smaller the amount of people with things to say in those communities would be smaller overall too.

Seems like WiVRn is also a good solution these days, just tried it out for the first time a few hours ago and I’m very impressed.

- Comment on Meta: “We're Still Investing Massively In VR Gaming And Don't Plan To Stop” 4 weeks ago:
The Quest 2 and 3 finally are a properly viable platform that millions of people use, but it still feels like Meta doesn’t want it to be a “Microsoft’s Xbox” sort of situation, they still want it to be a “Google’s Android” situation instead. It’s been an utterly bizarre time watching all of this occur in real time as someone that bought her first headset in 2017; their priorities have always been completely misaligned with the achievements they’re actually making.

My shortlist is probably WipEout Pulse (I love how that entire series feels like a game made out of electronic music, the same way Doom is made out of metal), WipEout 2048 (for the same reason, but I played it even more), Forza Motorsport 2 (cuz it had a huge influence on my taste at a very young age), and then maybe Gran Turismo 5?

I’m in love with it, it feels like it was made just for me. Like a combo of Skyrim and Fable II. Not everyone feels the same though.

Womp womp.
As a sidenote, I’m very impressed by how much Avowed is reminding me of some of my favourite memories playing Fable I and II back in the day. It feels like the same sort of action RPG, with the blending of swords, bows/guns, and magic. Certainly an unexpected treat, given the more obvious Skyrim comparisons that game has been getting.
- Comment on Avowed is the most fun I’ve have had since Skyrim! 1 month ago:
I’m genuinely kinda obsessed with it right now. Feel like they made a special one just for me. A perfect mix of my two childhood RPG favourites: Skyrim and Fable II.

Finally the live service bubble is popping.
I hope the developers working on these projects get put on to something else, instead of shown the door as is so often the case. - Comment on anyone know any good android games? 4 months ago:

Just bought Riven, I’m liking it quite a lot so far. I see why it’s a classic. Love the feeling of being dropped into a completely alien world.

Completely unique and very difficult to experience with alternative hardware nowadays (compared to the PSP which can be played on nearly everything). The games library is incredibly unique because small budget games still had a big chance to succeed.

I had a very interesting experience watching Network recently, a film from 1976 about the influence of television, and I had a strange realization that TV then was nearly as old as the internet is now. This just feels like a natural point in the history of a communications medium that people begin to think critically about its effect on people and the way we think.

I’ve been a big Bethesda fan for years, no one else makes games that quite come close to their very simulationist style. I like Starfield, and now that it’s a year after launch I have finally found my angle on it to get the enjoyment out of it that I wanted. I think it’s a good game.
But it’s also a flawed game, it’s clearly not for you, and that’s okay too.
- Comment on Apple TV+ Just Quietly Upgraded Its Most Underrated War Epic 7 months ago:
I think the fundamental themes of the film were at odds with a compelling and historically relevant telling of the story of Napoleon. Mostly mindless repetition of two centuries-old British propaganda. I don’t see how an alternate cut could address the flawed approach this film had.
