- Comment on [BBC News] Claims that smart motorways tech leaves drivers at risk 6 months ago:
Weren’t “smart” motorways originally just supposed to be automatic detection of traffic to apply temporary speed limits and reduce traffic? When did the ‘while we’re at it turn the hard shoulder into an extra lane to save the cost of expanding’ plan get tacked on?

- Comment on Life was better in the nineties and noughties, say most Britons 7 months ago:
When asked to think about their own lives, Britons are most likely to say that the best years of their life so far have been their twenties. Three in ten Britons aged 20 and older (30%) nominate that decade as their best, a figure which is largely consistent however old they are.
While the 90s was a bit of geopolitical stability, these findings seem to be more influenced by people enjoying the freedom of their youth

So yes, I think I was right!
- Comment on Keir Starmer: Labour wants to increase defence spending to 2.5% 7 months ago:
“as soon as resources allow”
Sir Keir’s aim matches that of Chancellor Jeremy Hunt
Just a tactical statement to win over any floating voters for whom this might be the deal-breaker, with a caveat that there might never be enough resources to allow it then?

That was the stereotype in the west too, it only reversed when having a tan meant you were wealthy enough to have been on a summer holiday somewhere sunny!

That is the trouble with relying on recruiters, there’s essentially no bar to entry so the industry is flooded with talentless chancers
- Comment on It’s time for a hard reset on notifications 7 months ago:
Aren’t messages the only point of LinkedIn? You create a profile which is basically your CV, set it to “looking for work”, and wait for recruiters to message you, right?
- Comment on car insurance 7 months ago:
It’s pretty standard in Britain to learn to drive when you’re 17. The testing seems to be much more rigorous than whatever happens in America though, and Anon would hopefully have lost their licence by now!
- Comment on Interim CEO Jim Whitehurst explains Unity's product-led path to profitability 7 months ago:
What do you expect them to say, “it’s all fucked, let’s shut up shop”? They’ve fired JR, undone most of his wild spending, gutted the company to desperately undo his mismanagement and make the company profitable. Saying “were trying to go back to how it was” seems like a non-insane risk-averse business way to try and keep the Unity users who haven’t been able to jump ship already.

You are correct, of course; I’m being facetious because half the comments here seem to be from people who are renting somewhere that costs their entire salary

If your expenses are more than your pay then you can either get a better paying job, cut your expenses by moving, or die

People with less expenses, people with a higher salary, people who live in a less expensive area, etc, etc.

This needs the massive IN THE USA disclaimer slapped over it. Sure, doctors are massively overworked everywhere, but if you’re supporting the NHS then you get people banging pots and pans for you, which I’m sure makes it all worthwhile.

I didn’t know about that bit, just had a read up on his wiki page under the “slave labour” section.
Von Braun later stated that he was aware of the treatment of prisoners, but felt helpless to change the situation. When asked if von Braun could have protested against the brutal treatment of the slave laborers, von Braun team member Konrad Dannenberg (a member of the Nazi party since 1932) told The Huntsville Times: “If he had done it, in my opinion, he would have been shot on the spot.”
Fucked up situation to be in. I’m sure we all think we’d do the right thing but I imagine having your life on the line affects what you do quite a lot. Like all historical figures, not all black and white.
