There are so many things pointing towards ditching QWERTY - WFH jobs, mobile devices, portable keyboards, even virtual projected keyboards rather than physical ones.
On the other hand, laptops are a bottleneck - even if nobody else uses your personal one but you, they still have to make one with a nonstandard layout (will e.g. Apple ever do that?) - and just bc newer, younger people learning how to use computers for the first time could choose a different layout, doesn’t mean that many will (I mean at the mainstream level).

Yeah, along with the tiny soft semi-permeable bags that swim in it and wiggle and breathe, that’s some other robot’s problem.

Emphasis on the would not, as distinguished from can not, it is refuses to.

iirc, we did legislate it. Surprise: Trump un-legislated it, and even before that Congress de-funded it.

If you don’t test, it doesn’t exist.
The problem… - sigh, here we go again, like every other time before it - is funding: who is going to pay for it?
The federal budget for 2024 was supposed to, and did, start on October 1, 2023. However, that budget was never approved until one House speaker lost their job, and the job of the second is now very much in jeopardy for “colluding” with lawmakers on both sides, which used to be called “governing” but now people scream as if it is tantamount to treason - except ofc whenever they themselves do it and then it’s all okay, obviously (eyeroll).
In this environment, even “normal” functions are being halted, and there is no excess capacity for things that would require above and beyond. Maybe individual states can start picking up the slack, or collections of them? Maybe a company can volunteer to pay their shareholders less in return for doing such testing, or even transparently raise the price of the goods, letting consumers know what additional value they are getting from the more expensive product? As if a sufficient number of people would notice and do anything other than simply purchase the cheapest one, as always?
And maybe our media can stop being shocked every time this happens? I for one no longer consider it “cute”. Whatever happened to factual reporting, that doesn’t attempt to affect outrage, especially for something like this where that would have already happened anyway!?
Therefore I choose to blame myself: perhaps I should just block any article from the NYT, if this is simply always how it is going to be from now on…

We are beings of electric patterns, with our thoughts riding our brains the way the brain rides the body, and it begs us to wonder then: what rides us in like manner - memes & TV commercials? :-P

In that case, what are we?
Meat suits hung onto skeleton hangers, obvi.
Or even more foundationally, proteins doing things with fatty membranes.
Basically piles of highly organized goo.

That sucks - I keep hearing that kind of thing from more and more people, the last one in Canada. Fwiw, it is a Saturday Night Live sketch, poking fun at ourselves as to how we inconsistently use measurement schemes, like some less popular sports use meters, but the most popular ones use the English ones like feet. I wonder why it is blocked, wherever you are.
If anyone knows, I would be interested in hearing: like should I not share YouTube videos anymore these days? Or only share/avoid certain corporate types? (Whereas certain others such as CPG Grey’s videos would truly be a tragic loss if they could not be shared) I presume Piped videos would likewise be blocked too? Are they blocked only in certain countries, or like most ones outside of the USA? Is the URL still useful, like to put into Vanced or some such, or would something else help better like the title, or again should I just not share them? I don’t know any of these answers but in any case, thank you for sharing with me your experience here.

If someone told you to just use Windows on your computer, b/c it will take care of you, would you listen?
There is some truth to both statements, but in any capitalist society it behooves one to be aware, since many people and especially corporations will try to take advantage of ignorance.
