- Comment on "X": Far-right conspiracy theorists have returned in droves after Elon Musk took over the former Twitter, new study says 2 days ago:
Yeah, it couldn’t possibly be because they’re a bunch of bigots in a delusional cult violating TOS agreements and generally being shitty people.
- Comment on Web publishers brace for carnage as Google adds AI answers 2 days ago:
Unless everyone stops using Google, trying to stop this is like fighting windmills.

Bubbles are not healthy
I disagree. Bubbles can be good for protecting vulnerable people and groups.

I’ve heard rocks bounce around in an empty, echo-y space in the past.
- Comment on Elon Musk’s Neuralink reports trouble with first human brain chip 6 days ago:
Just ignore this clown and his bullshit. Stop reporting on him and his companies, it’ll drive him nuts.
- Comment on Has Generative AI Already Peaked? - Computerphile 6 days ago:
They are discussing a very specific approach and a paper that lays out the issues with pursuing this one specific type of generative AI. It’s not about AI in general. The headline is a bit click-baity.
- Comment on An Interview With Jack Dorsey 6 days ago:
I’m not going to bother reading the empty headed thoughts of yet another techbro billionaire. I’d rather do just about anything else, like watch paint dry or grass grow, a far more productive use of my time.
- Comment on [IJustWatched] Blade Runner 2049. What do you think about it? 1 week ago:
Idk how the guy keeps getting cast in stuff. I don’t hate him but he’s just not that compelling as an actor. And has he been in anything successful?
- Comment on [IJustWatched] Blade Runner 2049. What do you think about it? 1 week ago:
The storyline with Jared Leto (also the weakest aspect) goes nowhere. I think it falls apart in the end. Visually great but ultimately messy and pointless.
- Comment on A Crash Course Guide to Nostr 1 week ago:
I would be making a huge mistake if I didn’t bring this up. A significant portion of the Nostr community loves Bitcoin, and many clients implement NIP-57 to hook into the Bitcoin Lightning Network.
Fuck no.
- Comment on Mad Palaeontologists 1 week ago:
Oh, and there are serious astrophysicists that do think Pluto and all dwarf planets should be considered planets. Idk if I agree, but I see where they’re coming from.
- Comment on Mad Palaeontologists 1 week ago:
I heard it on a recent podcast, I Know Dino, which is really good, btw. I’m not sure if it was the newest (as of 08/05/2024) or one from a few weeks back. It was a short discussion. Like I said, I don’t know how serious is the proposal.
- Comment on Mad Palaeontologists 1 week ago:
I don’t know how serious they are, but there are calls to categorise them as Dino’s.
- Comment on Bluesky confirms Jack Dorsey is no longer on its board 1 week ago:
I’m seriously wondering. All these billionaire types seem to be getting a taste for attention and can’t help shouting crazy bullshit at the top of their lungs. The louder these people are, the more scrutiny they will receive. Do they believe that will end well for them?
- Comment on Voyager 1 1 week ago:
The budget wasn’t really relevant to my point. And it did work correctly the first time.
- Comment on Voyager 1 1 week ago:
People always underestimate the high level NASA works at. Everyone bitches and moans, especially Musk simps, about how long SLS took to make and its expense, but it worked right the first time. In the case of the Voyager spacecraft, they are working with tech so old, all the original engineers are retired or dead. NASA rocks.
- Comment on Major U.S. newspapers sue OpenAI, Microsoft for copyright infringement 1 week ago:
Where was all that outrage from you all when everyone was downloading and pirating copyrighted music by groups like Metallica? If you were around back then, my guess is, you were all firing up Kazaa and Napster and didn’t give a shit.
- Comment on What is your favourite game console? 2 weeks ago:
While I really like the Genesis/Megadrive, and PS1, I have to say the SNES is an almost perfect console. It had everything that made the NES great, but with beautiful 16 bit graphics.
- Comment on It’s the End of the Web as We Know It 2 weeks ago:
AI can’t kill the World Wide Web, capitalism already did.

Copying isn’t theft. There is no “theft”.
- Comment on AI Is Poisoning Reddit to Promote Products and Game Google With 'Parasite SEO' 3 weeks ago:
Reddit is a lost cause. Even without ads, it’s clear that Reddit management is pushing a lot of mindless junk to the front page. It didn’t used to have so many moronic and fake AITAH and AskReddit posts (which in turn are posted by bots or paid posters) at the top. The whole thing is a steaming pile but people who’ve spent years on the site don’t want to give it up.
- Comment on The Fallout show's been a pleasant surprise 4 weeks ago:
It’s weird to me how no one is talking about how it has a strong and blatant anti-capitalist message. Without getting into spoilers, the ending really drives it home. I’m surprised right-wing dickheads aren’t screeching about it.
- Comment on ‘Dead Space’ Franchise Is Officially On Hold at Electronic Arts - Bloomberg 4 weeks ago:
I disliked DS2 as well. All those stupid QTEs and cut scenes made it a slog. It just was fun of scary
- Comment on Cory Doctorow: What Kind of Bubble is AI? 5 weeks ago:
Throwing billions at a problem to save a few millions just isn’t worth it.
When did that ever stop Silicone Valley investors?
- Comment on Cory Doctorow: What Kind of Bubble is AI? 5 weeks ago:
I didn’t say anything about a grand vision. And this has little to no connection to NFTs, other than the usual hyped tech investors.
Citation-fucking-needed.
That’s my opinion. You don’t have to agree. You also don’t have to be obnoxious.
- Comment on Cory Doctorow: What Kind of Bubble is AI? 5 weeks ago:
Not one of his better articles. A lot of prevaricating with very little substance or conclusions. While it is most certainly a bubble, few are taking into account the technology improving. This is a bone the tech dogs aren’t going to give up easily. They have a whiff of the possibility of AIG becoming a reality. Like all promising tech, the potential for long term damage is as, if not more so, catastrophic for society as the World Wide Web and social media. He’s looking at this as an echo of past Silicone Valley bubbles. It so much more than that.
