- Comment on Google is redesigning its search engine — and it’s AI all the way down 2 days ago:
Yeah. This is going to suck worse before it gets any better. The good news is that all the useful content (outside of sales gardens) is going to be here in the Fediverse.
The other good news is that the state of Cybersecurity investment is abysmal, and the walked garden content is going to get breached/leaked/pirated a lot, for a long time to come.

I’m a bit in over my head I think lol
We’re all in a bit over our heads. I suspect that ayone who doesn’t feel that way is unaware of the threat landscape, or just isn’t paid enough to care.
Does anyone have any good resources on “general” cyber security information?
That’s a big topic.
It’s hard to go wrong with a well reviewed “Security+” study guide. Hack the Box, SANS, and Cloud Academy have good resources.
Personally, of the paid resources, Cloud Academy is my current favorite.

Will get you quite a bit of your list, while you save up for something else:
- affordable ~$30
- battery life: seems to be about a week
- notifications, media controls
- no vendor lock in
- ability to turn stuff off, it’s fully open source, no vendor is forcing features
- Comment on Was the 401(k) a Mistake? How an obscure, 45-year old tax change transformed retirement and left so many Americans out in the cold. 1 week ago:
Yeah.
And getting rid of wealth caps on social services has a hidden benefit: it removes the “I’m a future billionaire so this isn’t fair to me” argument from the table.
That said, I figure people who want a more extravagant retirement can hire a tax advisor to navigate a traditional 401k. So there’s probably no need to burden the public option with that.

- Comment on Phones have unique phone numbers, why dont computers have unique computer-numbers? 1 week ago:
Lack of demand.
Phones having unique unalterable numbers was never an intentional feature desired by users, just a limitation of the available technology.
Computer network cards do have such a number, their MAC address, but modern ones can scramble it to avoid being tracked, without any loss of ability to be reached by everyone you want to be reached by.

I’ve had my eye on Helldiver’s 2, but I’m not creating a PSN account.
I know my $40.00 is pretty important to them, so I thought I would mention it here.

It may be both.
It could be both helping save the environment and siphoning public funds into a buddy’s pocket.

“We can say that, during his time at Telltale, Zak was one of the most talented, balanced and inclusive game directors we have ever worked with, and that is evident in the games he has delivered.”
That statement doesn’t read as the defense they think it reads as.
It reads as “all of our other game directors are somehow actually worse.”

- Comment on Twisters 2 months ago:
That’s a shame. The trailer looked really promising when I saw it with no sound.
I guess they need something, but it feels like the storm ought to be more than enough to be the “bad guy” of the film.
That does sound like really lazy filmmaking.
- Comment on Twisters 2 months ago:
I have no idea. That’s part of what makes me curious about the film. I only have the IMDB page to go off of, but it sounded like they’re going for realism in technique and technology.
- Comment on Twisters 2 months ago:
Here’s the thing: the real star of Twister is the storm chasing techniques and technologies.
And it has been decades.
The updated techniques and technologies deserve a cool movie too, and if they has called it anything else, I would be shouting angrily for the missed chance to call it “Twisters”.
Also, anything that encourages more people to watch “Twister” is a good thing. So I’m really hoping this new one isn’t awful.
- Comment on Is the quite place movies worth watching in your opinion ? 3 months ago:
I’m easily put off by obvious technical flaws in scifi movies, and I didn’t notice any in either film.
The world building is fantastic. The third act reveal, in the first film, is esoteric, but I think that fits well with the need for it to be something not too easily discovered.
I’m sure there’s things that could be science flaws, but anything I noticed was well within my “I don’t know everything about this world” allowance.
The only “flaw” I remember turned out to be a very well considered detail, in the second film. When I first saw it, I thought it was an error, but about a minute later it was clear that it was not an error:
spoiler for the 4th act of the second film
One jarring issue that completely disrupted my viewing experience was when there’s a mowed lawn late in the second film. I was angry at the oversight, because no way is anyone mowing lawns in this world. But it was actually an establishing shot - showing that the discovered “safe haven” is believed to be so safe that people even mow their lawns.
