- Comment on Longtime buddy of mine just got a gaming PC. What games would make up a good "welcome to PC" care package? 2 weeks ago:
Just in the past few years I got maybe 100-200 free games. I follow a few discord bots, and several free groups here on lemmy and Slickdeals website. Lots of resources. Amazon prime gives free games, epic free games, lots of free games on steam, itch.io, gog often has free games, other key websites often have free games too.
Can check steam sale prices on steamDB website.
- Comment on There are some downsides to marriage 3 weeks ago:
Take the time to know someone as a friend for a long time, date slowly and get to know them well.
I met my wife in college and we took it very slow for 8 years or so and then got married, and now we have been married about the same. We didn’t rush into marriage, kids, etc.
- Comment on What do drain unclogging liquids actually do? 3 weeks ago:
The chemicals almost never work and they will make the plumber mad they have to deal with such toxic stuff.
Better to just snake it. They sell little snakes and manual ones.

It’s never been on sale. I checked all the websites for price history and game deals.
- Comment on Amazon: The same 31 products you don't want, again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again 3 weeks ago:
What annoys me about Amazon search is it doesn’t listen to my search, and it doesn’t allow qualifiers such as minus sign. Most other searches listen to minus sign as excluding that word from search.
Example: metal cup -plastic -mug -jug I search for a metal cup, but I do not want plastic, and not a mug or jug.

On Apple we have Firefox focus, it’s a single tab browser with Adblock. Works for YouTube and other websites.

There was even search terms for finding open servers on search engines such as: “parent-of” “open-directory” MP3 AVI etc

Thanks, we are good. We now own land, and will soon live in an RV as we build our house. 2025 will be a great year for us.
- Comment on Holiday Decoration 2025 3 weeks ago:
Merry Christmas everyone!
(Our only decoration is a plate from our neighbors that gave us cookies, my wife and I live in our car at the moment, but we are happy as can be)

I left abusive family and live in my car in the middle of the desert. I’m happy as can be, I’m FREE! There’s usually a good side to the bad stuff, hope you have a wonderful holidays and find ways to cheer yourself up. Life can be amazing and sometimes the negatives are in our heads.
- Comment on Is it ethical for a parent to distribute inheritance based on the child(ren)'s mental capacity (aka refusing to give an inheritance to child(ren) with reduced mental capacity)? 4 weeks ago:
I would think a disabled person would need more money to survive in this world than someone not disabled.
- Comment on Cups 5 weeks ago:
I thought they just had a recall. Better to not have 100 of them. lol
- Comment on Anon shares how they survive 1 month ago:
I setup the car as a stealth camper, but because we are 2 people and a cat, we have to put things in the front seat when camping and it’s not as stealth.
Passenger floor is the cat litter box, passenger seat is the food bins and on top is the cat food and water, and his carrier (we remove the door so he can go in as he wants). The drivers floor is the extra cat food and cat litter, and drivers seat is a 7 gallon water jug.
At least where we are there’s tons of free camping. I have been using freecampsites.net for most of the camping spots.

The price of rent ($3,000/mo) and homes ($1,000,000) are crazy where we left. My wife and I currently living in a small car for about a month now. We are comfortable and have all we need. Small battery (jacket/bluetti/ecoflow) with solar panels and an inverter to charge while driving, small 12v fridge, some clothes, food, 14 gallons water. I leaned a ton from YouTube “CheapRVliving”. Right now we are sacrificing, but soon we will own cheap land and will build our own small house on it. I think it’s the only way we can survive this harsh world. Everything is just so expensive.
- Comment on How far away are we from someone using AI to create an animated TV show by themselves. 2 months ago:
I used to watch AI Peter quite a while ago, turns out it’s still live www.youtube.com/@ai-peter
I think it gets the text promos on its discord then it animated scenes based on the topic. Sometimes is funny as heck.
- Comment on How do I get over fear of cooking? 2 months ago:
Maybe start with more simple things? What I feel is simple is like oatmeal or pasta.
Maybe take a cooking class? They can teach you how to do things so it won’t be as scary.

I usually see people mount it on a vice and use a string from a distance away, plus behind blast shields.
- Comment on How many Nintendo Switches do I need for a family of gamers? 2 months ago:
If you want extra controllers I recommend the 8-bit-do controllers. They are cheaper than Nintendo. The ones I have work on switch, Xbox, pc, android, iOS, etc. they also sell a dongle to work on many more consoles. (I use the dongle on Linux and allows me to play wireless).
I already agree with most of the comments here, just wanted to add info about 3rd party controllers.

I switched to Linux mint maybe 6 months ago and it’s been great. Just a bit of adjustment for which programs I needed to get some things done. Also turns out some stuff was WAY easier to get running such as my JavaScript twitch chat bots, I didn’t even need a tutorial and I got it running in terminal. My wife also using mint at the same time I switched and she has been liking it too. Good luck and know there’s a ton of people here that can help you out.

- Comment on Goodwill is out of control 2 months ago:
I stopped going to goodwill a while ago.
Prices too high.
Also Caught them a few times taking the sale of the week items to the back storage so no one can get the $1 blue tags or whatever color of the week it was.
Also heard the manager yelling at an employee for missing one of the sale items.
I still go to all the other brands of thrift stores, there are like 30 of them in 10 miles, maybe more. And they are ALL cheaper than goodwill.
I also used to go to goodwill outlets and get stuff cheap by weight, but I no longer see hard goods or DVDs there anymore. So I stopped going.

I did find a few on GitHub, but the one I tried had an error after a few downloads, so I just manually got them all.
