- Comment on Refrigerators have DRM on them, To force you to buy $50 water filters or it won't dispense water 1 week ago:
Can’t force you to anything, if you weren’t told about it before you bought it. Demand a refund and give them a date they get it out of your place by.
- Comment on Linus Torvalds on why desktop Linux sucks 1 week ago:
I just for the hell of it installed and tried the Flatpak version of an MVP player I use daily. The daily started playing a stream in 2 or 3 seconds. After starting the same stream on the Flatpak, it was still downloading after a minute had gone by. Not just FAT but SLOOOOOOw.
- Comment on Watch This Documentary About 'Star Trek: Phase II' and See What Could've Been 2 weeks ago:
It’s very well done. Lot of insights into what happened in the 12 years before the movie. The way they treated Roddenberry … arg.
- Comment on I Live 500 Feet From A Bitcoin Mine. My Life Is Hell. 3 weeks ago:
People who live next to a freeway or major arterial often get relief because walls get built to deflect the continual noise away from housing.
These people need to organize and demand relief. That mine needs to be inside insulated walls… or moved WAY out of town. 300MW? I guess they can afford it.
- Comment on Sabine Hossenfelder Has Started Openly Defending Proven Grifters 4 weeks ago:
I’m certain that she didn’t mean that -all- fields of science were scams … it’s always been physics that she’s PO’d at. And I understand that point 'cuz I’m very familiar with the history of physics, so I don’t need your recommendations. You’ve clearly made up your mind about, and I appreciate her news report and chuckle at her sarcasm, so let’s drop it.
- Comment on Sabine Hossenfelder Has Started Openly Defending Proven Grifters 4 weeks ago:
True that about him. (Altho he has confidently misstated the facts a few times.) Sabine definitely has her on days and off days. Maybe I missed her saying exactly those two things you put quotes around. As for the productivity of Big Science, I think she’s right to suggest that it has not delivered the way that it once did, and right about how it has lost its way. (HYUGE topic for this little container.)

she acts like an authoritative figure on everything. Worked for Kneel de Grass…
- Comment on Sabine Hossenfelder Has Started Openly Defending Proven Grifters 4 weeks ago:
Sabine is a very bright and well-informed lady. I enjoy listening to her trash the well-paid real grifters. They’ve started attacking back? That figures. It’s hard hearing that you’ve been under-performing for decades.
- Comment on Why don't Americans use electric kettles? 1 month ago:
Three reasons I can think of.
-
Americans don’t drink much tea. And soo…
-
Not many stores carry electric kettles.
-
Microwave tea.

Better a store you can go check stuff out in before you buy … than looking at pictures on a screen and hoping it’s what it pretends to be.
- Comment on Sh0e0nHead - "Blame the Voters!" Responding to Democrat Criticism 6 months ago:
She puts on a good show … does her promos … then lambastes Californians because they didn’t put out the fire with ocean water. Anyone who said ‘Well, duh’ to that belongs in her club.
- Comment on Why Trump can't buy Greenland 7 months ago:
Imperialism is different than taking the land outright. Agreed. But a threat can be the beginning of a negotiation. Historically, the US wants the appearance of sovereignty to remain - just keep the right people in power.
- Comment on Why Trump can't buy Greenland 7 months ago:
That didn’t save South America.

- Comment on George Carlin everybody. 9 months ago:
No cavalry … and no calvary either … is going to ride over the hilltop and save us. We can only keep healthy, keep learning and keep doing the best we can for each other. Yeah, it matters today. And it’s always today.

All pets were at one time wildlife. Killing one to save it… wow.
- Comment on Ghost jobs are wreaking havoc on tech workers 9 months ago:
It’s gross, fraudulent as three-card monte, and … as with many corporate tricksters … there needs to be a law with prison terms.

Thanks for reminding me of a great film I saw in theatres long ago… I was at a con once and heard Barry and bought his Workshop book … good to see he’s still kicking …
and thanks too for hooking me up with Feral Historian’s stuff (like his style) which I might never have found otherwise…

Now for the next test: 3 identical new styluses profiled, on 3 identical TTs, play Marcus Family vs. Metallica vs Lou Reed’s Metal Machine Music.
After 100 hours compare stylus profiles to originals. Repeat after 1000 hours.

Powerful message. “Brought to you by DHHS, National Cigarette Foundation, Department of Education, Cigs4Kidz, and Viewers Like You.”
Don’t remember any PSA’s like that back when they were doing atmospheric testing of atom bombs down in Nevada for weeks on end.
