I don’t think these people should be locked up or all AI usage banned. But there is definitely a middle ground between absolute prohibition and no restrictions at all.
I have used AI tools as a shooter/editor for years.

Now that is interesting, I've never heard this consideration before.

I can't control that you saw my comments seconds after they were posted but before the 20-30s it takes for me to edit them. There is nothing i changed that drastically for you to imply I was being deceptive.
- Comment on Microsoft’s VASA-1 can deepfake a person with one photo and one audio track 7 months ago:
And your comment was unnecessarily patronizing. Do you think they needed that today?
- Comment on Microsoft’s VASA-1 can deepfake a person with one photo and one audio track 7 months ago:
I understand some of you AI evangelist types look down on us Luddites who dare to ask questions, but you seriously can’t see any potential issue with this technology without some sort of restrictions in place?

Or you could just ask them to avoid confusion as it takes 5 seconds and they may have a way of doing things that you don't know about? It's respectful and it potentially saves you a lot of hassle if it doesn't work and you need to troubleshoot it.

One thing that really soured my taste with Andromeda was the very clunky, but for some odd reason still necessary platforming. It always ground things to a halt for me and reminded me I was playing a video game, which is not a fun feeling. Like recognizing that actor are on a set in the middle of the movie.
They also did not really explore what different species could look like. It just felt like any group I could’ve seen in the Milky Way when they had given themselves an excuse to do literally whatever they wanted. Like halo 4 choosing to have me fight the covenant again after 3 rounded the story out and gave them a mechanism for dropping the chief literally anywhere at any time.
I also found most of the squadmates to not be very memorable. It felt like they were going out of their way to make sure they didn’t resemble any of the previous ensembles.
That being said, I think the game did an incredible job of not falling into the usual paradigm of “this is the good option, this is the bad option.” There was a lot more nuance to some of the decisions and it really had me stopping and thinking about how I wanted to proceed.
Still, I never finished the game. Got several dozen hours and it was enjoyable enough, but a lot of dropped balls.

Don't flatter yourself. There aren't that many of us here, we see the same people frequently. Didn't you just say in your previous comment that i'm a "notorious zionist"? Obviously you keep track of me if you're willing to plant that flag.
You're just an asshole. Plain and simple.

Bro you literally just randomly called me "Lemmy's most notorious zionist" 7 minutes before this comment and you're over here now preaching "empowerment" and restrain on opinions?

Do yourself a favor and never get curious about halo 5.
Gears on the other hand has still been rocking along and staying interesting IMO.

Much as I am loath to admit it, Diablo IV did amazing beyond its niche. Anecdotally I saw soooo many people who’d never played Diablo or any game like it get onboard.
Staying power remains to be seen of course.

Which br8!(/ back to my original question of why two countries suddenly closed the matter. What is your bar for who gets to decide what the truth is? Is it based on the size of the population they serve? GDP? Years as a country?

It was a dumb comparison and as others have pointed out, giving people mercury was not evidence-based treatment. Comparing half a century of data using quality methods and testing to mercury chugging centuries ago is profoundly ignorant.

Wow, here is some scummy behavior to add to the list. I jumped on it because I couldn’t remember if I ever made an account or not. When I tried to sign by my email, it prompted me to sign in by my Gmail with text that made it sound like that’s how I did it before. As soon as I logged in, it immediately started having me build a profile because it was a new account. How is this fucking legal?
- Comment on [deleted] 9 months ago:
Well, I think people need to be a little patient with folks who use terms like “dumb” and “moron,” it would behoove you to maybe consider why people are bringing that up now.
It’s kind of like the R word. Mocking people for things they can’t control, especially things with a history of leading to persecution, is not OK. “Moron” unfortunately does have a very troubled history as a term so they aren’t wrong. Same reason I am trying not to use words like “crazy” when describing people’s behavior.
- Comment on Trans youth will no longer be prescribed puberty blockers, NHS England says 9 months ago:
Why should I bother trying to educate you when you won’t even leave the article you’re arguing over?
Puberty blockers have been well-studied and widely-used since the late 1980s. They have been routinely used to pause puberty in adolescents experiencing gender dysphoria, treat children who enter puberty too early and help adults living with a range of other medical conditions.
Links included in the article btw. Go nuts.
- Comment on I hate the term "Boomer Shooter" 9 months ago:
It is utterly bizarre to me out of all the misnomers and ridiculous (sometimes offensive) terms out there in the media/hobby world, I see “boomer shooter” complained about so much more than any other. This is like the third rant I’ve seen about it in a week.
- Comment on [deleted] 9 months ago:
You had a point until the response became twice as long and disproportionate to the original comment. He didn’t even say “forced.”
I agree the term is overly hyperbolic, but let’s maybe dial it back dude

That is what was so upsetting about last summer. I had a lot invested in Reddit. Emotionally, mentall, hell just time-wise. After the “landed gentry“ comment, I just couldn’t deal with it anymore. It was so disrespectful and completely missed the mark for why most moderators do what they do. Like I get it, many people dog moderators and think they’re just “power tripping jannies.” But fact of the matter is most moderators are perfectly fine people just volunteering their time to foster a community they care about.
So for the CEO of a company whose entire existence is owed to the labor of unpaid users that they never talk to or interact with in any meaningful way outside of a handful of mod teams to come out and call us “entitled” and other adjectives because we are protesting a terrible decision and advocating for people with disabilities…well, there’s a reason many of us left.
- Comment on [deleted] 9 months ago:
I know what Reddit was. I was a moderator for a sizable sub for many years lol you’re not going to get any disagreement from me there. None of what you wrote above is incompatible with what I wrote. You need to think of it in relative terms. I am not saying that Reddit is some truly authentic experience, far from it. But if you’re looking for legitimate answers to your hobby/technical/fandom questions, name a site that comes even close that 1) isn’t exponentially worse/more corporate dominated and/or 2) is actually big enough to get responses.
Discord is the next closest thing because of how servers are set up but it’s a terrible repository for information because you need to be invited (no google searching/indexing) and structurally you can’t find anything that’s more than like 5min old.
- Comment on Trans youth will no longer be prescribed puberty blockers, NHS England says 9 months ago:
We have decades of studies. You do not know what you are talking about.
- Comment on [deleted] 9 months ago:
I mean… If you are looking to talk to actual people and hear actual opinions, the simple fact is Reddit is the best major site for it. There is nothing like it, in particular smaller hobby/technical/interest communities. And I say this as somebody who has a comment history full of “fuck Reddit.“ there is a reason. Google searches are only useful if you put “Reddit“ at the end now.
Is there astroturfing? Yes. Are there tons of corporate interests manipulating it? Of course. But compared to Facebook, Twitter, etc. it may as well will be public access to their corporate owned cable.
