I found out something interesting last night, I was listening to an interview with a Canadian politician, and he talked about how in 1996, the Canadian government went to issue some bonds, and there were zero buyers. Zero. Investors around the world looked at Canadian debt instruments, and said "no."

I absolutely believe that we're on the verge of the same thing happening again in canada, but I also think that we're on the verge of seeing the same thing starting to happen in the US. The Federal reserve isn't going to keep on soaking up bonds forever. It's almost unimaginable the amount of money that has been conjured into existence in the past 12 years. It's a bipartisan thing, both parties have been ridiculously irresponsible. They have been since Reagan.

So the country is in a very difficult situation. Inflation is starting to rise, and this was always going to happen it's basically economics. There are lots of people who are telling you that inflation couldn't possibly rise, because they're morons. But when inflation starts to rise, Keynesian orthodoxy is that it's time to start reducing the money supply. This means reversing QE, it means dramatically raising rates, which is going to have a direct effect on bonds.

Bottom line is, they can pass whatever they want. I think within the next two years they're going to have to take it right back out again.
