Remember everyone, you don't need to use Google. Personally, I have fully transitioned to a searx instance that looks at 15 different search engines, and Google is not one of them, and neither is bing.
It's a little bit funny, because you see the latest censorship drama on google, and then you go to enter the exact same search term into your searx instance, and it's not even a thing. You end up with completely different search results, often including the ones Google has banned.

startpage, duckduckgo, and probably many more... And mullvad vpn. It would be useful to create a "freedom pack" of applications for the less tech savvy to install.

There's a fantastic plugin for google chrome based browsers called Privacy Redirect that automatically redirects twitter, instagram, youtube, google maps, google translate, reddit, wikipedia, and search URLs to free services.
Searx is a great choice I host and use myself. It's an open source web application that goes through a bunch of search engines and presents all the different search results ad-free. I exclusively use my own instance that excludes google search results, and it's great. Google search is getting too big for its britches, so I avoided them, but I consistently get excellent results.
