In cutting off Baldur's Gate 3's GOTY speech, the Game Awards cut the show's only real mention of mass layoffs

Grain of salt because it is easy to say anything when the pressure is off, but Larian/Swen has a good track record of giving a shit and it is telling that even when Gamers were using Larian as “proof that games don’t have to ship broken with DLC” (which is hilarious for many reasons) and sending Xalavier Nelson Jr death threats for saying otherwise, Larian were the ones pointing out even their own bad track record with this stuff (there is a reason both Divintiy Original Sins got an “Enhanced Edition” a year or two later…).
But yeah, said it before, will say it again. The short speeches had nothing to do with Chris Judge giving a shit last year and giving a real speech. It barely had anything to do with making sure there was time for Wuh-wuh-wuh-World Premieres ™. It… probably did have something to do with making sure Kojima had all the time he wanted to do a skit for a bit of concept art.
It was almost entirely about layoffs and Palestine. Layoffs have impacted basically every corner of the games industry whether it is devs, PR, media outlets, or whatever. And the mindless “brown arabs are evil” is more or less what Call of Duty and significant amounts of revenue are built on (oh no, I jabbed at Call of Duty. People will be so angry!). 30 seconds is basically enough for the “Thanks. This is a great honor. I just want to say thank you to… Oh, okay” part of the speech. So unless someone was going to open with one of those topics, they would never get to it.
