If we have a pair of aluminum straits and fire tankers at them, without observation you’ll find that the tankers will both get tolled on the left strait AND get stuck halfway through the right strait, preventing any other tankers from getting through.

With enough speed, both will not be oil tankers anymore after they collide. Unfortunately it may need more speed that they can achieve by themselves, we may need some kind of “oil tanker accelerator”
