Didn’t those dumb fucks defund PBS, forcing a bunch of local stations to shut down?

They defunded the Corporation for Public Broadcasting, which was the government agency that sent funds to PBS members. PBS itself is independent. CPB only amounted to $200,000 pa. Its a significant hit, but not existential for PBS members. They may have to reduce their ambitions, while the major ones such as WGBH will experience very little impact as they can dip into other sources of funding.

Why start a TV station when TV is clearly dying. Your better off starting a YouTube and or Twitch channel instead.

Stations didn’t actually close, but it did hurt.

Trump’s Move to End Federal Funding for NPR and PBS Was Unconstitutional, Judge Rules | Chicago News | WTTW share.google/1tTMfAO2j5K36GdCL

The cutbacks took effect last fall and have had a variety of impacts on local stations across the country, as well as the national PBS and NPR operations. Some stations have laid off staffers and cut back on programming.

But the networks have remained on the air, despite Trump’s remark in January that “they’re sort of gone now, I guess, I heard they closed up. They were terrible.”

Well your probably right. But what about iphones and smaller cheaper tech nowadays. Couldn’t you do like a Pirate Broadcast?

For actual TV? It would still be pretty hard and expensive. Those use pretty powerful broadcasting equipment and if you’re putting out a pirate broadcast, you’re gonna want it even more powerful to make sure it takes over whatever frequency you’re broadcasting at.

The internet is much cheaper and easier to get an audience with. That’s why there are way more small creators on YouTube and TikTok than local TV stations.
