If a person ran over a pedestrian and sat there on top of them until the fire department lifted the car, they would be banned from driving for a while too.
It doesn’t matter how safe they were before.

I mean the best thing for a human to do once they’ve run over another human is not to run them over with 2 more tires.
Sitting on top is empirically correct in the shitty situation.
I’m not familiar with the exact reason why they were hit in the first place: that’s likely where the criticisms of self driving cars should be though, unless this was someone with a death wish darting into traffic… Which I highly doubt.
