It’s probably like this at most colleges. Moving big stuff is expensive so the students just toss it. It’s pretty well known in Austin that you can get free stuff at UT on move out day that way.

Same thing at OSU. This past end of the school year, my buddy got a free 60" TV. Only problem here is that there’s bed bugs sometimes. So I stopped dumpster diving furniture at all

This was 6 years ago. Not sure if things have changed since then, but I thought I’d share for the entertainment that Jeff Seal provides.
This is the second video in a 3-part series. The first one I posted to !videos@sopuli.xyz here.
Will post part 3 in a few days.

When I graduated a few years ago I had a whole bunch of supplies I just didn’t need anymore. The University have a donation drive from some things including that.
I think the problem is graduation students have things in their dorms they either don’t have a use for after graduation or simply can’t take with them (like furniture).

I’m pretty sure I can believe it.

I think this is just endemic to colleges that don't have a plan for move out. I worked at a high school that was on a college town at the time thos was filmed. We would take HS students dumpster diving during move out and get all kinds of stuff for proper donation. This wasn't some fancy school, just a state school. The college kids have exams, and then have a day or two to move out of dorms. It's too much to handle for a 19 yo with poor parents who are making the trip to the school to get them, possible missing work. So - they throw everything away.

Pretty much. The part 1 and 2 focus on NYC because the channel is The Gothamist and they’re based in NYC, but the 3rd video is set at the University at Buffalo.
