Legally, is there any reason why an open-source drop-in replacement for Unity couldn’t be created such that any game currently built on Unity could be shifted to it with minimal work?
I get that practically that would probably be a whole lot of work, but I imagine there’s never been more will to create such a thing.

Its not impossible but the cost of doing so makes it unlikely to happen
