Of they are releasing it before the PS6 etc, it’ll be eaten alive.

Nintendo continually releases underpowered consoles and sells similar numbers to Sony without issues.
Steam (and PC gaming in general) have access to significantly more games and exist on an open ecosystem, which are already big selling points.
Not only that, the biggest things keeping people from buying into the PC ecosystem are cost and complexity. They don’t want to pay >$1k to play games and they don’t want to have to futz around with a desktop. Valve has already demonstrated they can do both with the Steam Deck.
Who cares if the PS6 ends up having slightly more performance? There’s more factors than raw performance. And those who are obsessed with performance but unwilling to put up the cash for a decent PC can just lock themselves away in the PS ecosystem. Their loss.

Nintendo makes money from underpowered console’s because their business model is nostalgia, the same way apples is fashion. They don’t need to make great products, as long as they meet the end goal.
