    Similar thing happened in the early 2000s to Darebin Creek. Major detergent spill from a factory bordering the creek. Turned everything plantish black and stinking for months. No major works done to mitigate it back then. Did eventually dissipate but was a nasty mess while it lasted. Many dead rodents & birds.
