My wife and I just bought a house and have a baby on the way. The house has a creek running through the property. We own land on both sides so by law we own the stretch of creek. We recently found out that neighbors come and go to the creek with pets or children. The sides of it are tall and steep in places and to me it’s only a matter of time until someone falls and gets hurt. I do not want the liability of this. I know some of the people that have been coming and I am going to tell them to please stay off my property. Once I do that I’m going to put up no trespassing signs to notify anyone else. Would I be the asshole for doing this? I get that people used to have access from the old owners but I am not comfortable with it. It’s my property and I am trying to protect my family from a potential lawsuit.
