“build” is a directory for build scripts, makefiles, and associated tools. “out” would be a directory for generated output.

html is best written by hand. It is the best markup there is. It cannot get any simpler than that.

Ok, now imagine you want to do updates on your website and have a RSS feed for it, now you have to write two documents. And one year later you want to change the layout a bit, now you have to edit 300 documents by hand. Writing HTML by hand is only simpler for very simple websites.

Websites must always be simple. Even in markdown, or any other document, you’d have to edit 300 documents.
