My 19yo son Noel left to go start his sophomore year at SDSU last month. Before he left, we got into an argument about managing his time and money and being aware of drugs and partying.

He got angry because he said I was lecturing him and I said it’s my job because I’m his dad. He then said you’re not my real dad. I said well you’ve been calling me dad for 16 years. Then he said “not anymore Michael!”

I adopted Noel when he was 3. That conversation pissed me off so much that he’s lucky he left in one piece. When he was in college last year, I would deposit a few hundred dollars into his checking account every month. I didn’t deposit shit last month and he asked why. I said go ask your real dad for money you asshole.

So now we’re both giving each other the silent treatment. I think his attitude is related to this girl who he’s seeing at school so he thinks he’s a big shot now.
