Can Someone Explain Gemini (2017) to Me?

I just finished watching it and was confused. Either the mystery part was lacking or I’m missing something.

What were the coins about? Was it just a red herring?

Was it really just self-defense? or was it premeditated or something?

I still enjoyed the film, it was visually pleasing, it had a unique vibe to it. I especially love the city light scenes in Travy’s house.
I was all caught up with the mystery up until the “twist” where it was actually the fan who died. I was waiting for something more cathartic, but apparently that was it. It just left me wanting for more.

I did some digging around and someone theorized that Heather was being stalked by the superfan. That’s why Heather felt like her life was in danger (well she said she felt like that all the time, but maybe the stalker situation was her boiling point).
Heather asked for Jill’s gun because she intended to murder the superfan and set it up as self defense. (It’d be easy to call out the superfan by messaging her through instagram)
Thoughts?
Writing it out though I saw a simple flaw. If Heather directly messaged the superfan, the superfan would’ve instantly messaged her friends or posted something.
