They are a lemmy instance dedicated to the facilitation piracy and copyright infringement in general which is illegal. It is by nature in violation of the rules of your instance which prohibit illegal content, therefore it is imperative that you defederate it in accordance with your policies.
Copyright infringement is illegal. Talking about copyright infringement is not.
And “copyright” has so many different definitions around the planet that it’s impossible to say if any of their discussions are about infringement.
They’re literally facilitating the sharing of torrents. That’s not “just talking about copyright infringement” that’s the facilitation of it.
Torrent files also aren’t illegal.
Also, you’re on the internet, which isn’t beholden solely to US copyright laws, so unless you’re a lawyer who specializes in international copyright law, I doubt you can speak with any certainty to the legality of post content in every jurisdiction across the globe.
Here’s an idea: if you don’t want to see that content, block the community.
Discussions aren’t illegal in most places, but maybe Disney will give you your good boy points.

I already did, I DMed the Admins there, they said they’ll look into it.
Does this seem to anyone else like a non-native speaker trying to sound officious or lawyerly?
Did I miss something? Did this already happen? I can’t seem to access the piracy community from lemmy.world, I’m getting a “couldnt_find_community” error
They deleted it, but there are many more like it on that instance that they didn’t delete, I say defederate the whole thing because they’re probably going to just make more like it. Deleting them is just going to be a cat and mouse game and more and more will slip though the cracks.
As OP said, he has received a reaction from the admins and with that his question is answered. I’ll close this topic for now since this is not a discussion community on what is piracy and what not.
