@redditmirrorbot Seems to me like this is exactly what is supposed to happen -- This guy didn't own the land, he used it and got 27 years of use out of it rent-free, and eventually the rightful owner of the land came around and told him to get out.

Sometimes bad things happen. It isn't the state's fault that this guy didn't own the land he was living on, he's the one who decided to live on land he didn't own.

  That's where verbal contracts get complicated. If the previous owner gave him permission to live there in perpetuity, then that should be honored by those who buy the land up after the owner is gone... but how do they know about it?
  
  This is one where courts need to actually figure it out and hash it out.
  
  Though I think we can all agree that "not having access to a road" is not a legitimate reason for state intervention. The property dispute itself may be complicated and not obvious, but hopefully it is resolvable with a settlement.
