I’m considering leaving my IC7100 on throughout the day, but I’m concerned about whether the screen might develop any sort of burn-in from displaying the same image for such a long time.
Can anyone with an IC 7100 chime in on whether they’ve experienced any display issues from leaving the radio on for a long period of time?
Thanks!

It’s a monochrome LCD, dude. I have never seen this technology with even temporary burn-in unless driven incorrectly.

Good to know.
I have seen damage to older monochrome displays before (from the 90s) but I don’t know how they differed from what ICOM used in the 7100. Obviously things had improved in those 20 years. But since monochrome LCDs are somewhat rare in consumer goods nowadays, I don’t have much experience with more modern variants.

There are screensavers for the Nokia 3310 but my grandma does not use one and it’s still alright. The damage you saw may have happened if the driver hanged and started sending DC to the display instead of AC pulses, which is unlikely for dedicated COB ones like on the 3310 or 7100. That (and mechanical damage such as glass breaking or delamination, or very high voltage, obviously) is the only way an LCD cell itself can degrade. Much more frequently, a rubber strip or flat cable gets loose, or the MCU or LCD driver fails (very common in 1980s/1990s CMOS technology, such as calculators). Therefore, in a well-built device not exposed to shocks and quick temperature changes, an STN LCD will be unlikely to fail before anything else.
