The wealthy white Democrats who supported forced busing in the 1970s all sent their kids to private schools while the poor white kids got beat up at public schools miles from home. Things haven’t changed.
The sovereignty that Martha’s Vineyard apparently enjoys is but a dream for countless Americans who have had their towns and their way of life transformed without their consent.
This applies not just to immigration but a whole spectrum of things: crime, “gender-affirming” transgender insanity in schools, take your pick. The “elites,” of course, do not see an issue with this oppressive relationship. They find the rubes too contemptible to think about with anything but horror and disgust.

They aren't real people with consequences for their actions to the elite, they're hypothetical people. Even when you're watching cities burn to the ground. I don't think they see horror and disgust, they don't see people at all. They see insects to play with, and they have the world's biggest magnifying glass.
These are all good examples of "luxury beliefs" -- it's a way to show your status by having beliefs that are actively harmful but you're so rich and powerful the consequences of the actions don't affect you.
