Quick summary: that Wikipedia user noticed that WMF expendings are growing considerably, alongside the “PLS DONATE” spam. Once the donations drop considerably, shit will hit the fan.

This begs the question, what is this money being spent on?

As typical, HN users showing that they’re redditors LARPing as hax0rz and have the same insight of a green potato:

Wikipedia is consistently fast, reliable, free, invaluable, current and transparent and has been for years and years. It’s a cornerstone of the internet. I’d wager it’s the internet at its best. // So yeah I’m not seeing the issue here.

OP is pointing out a potential future problem, and this muppet’s answer boils down to “I dun unrurrstand, I dun see teh problem nao, I is so confusion…”

You’re free not to contribute to Wikipedia.

The point flew over the head of this one. Or inside it due to the wind tunnel. But it certainly did not stick.

[replying to the above] This is an interesting comment that seems to miss the point.

It ain’t interesting, but in HN unless you’re expected to pretend that any grass-chewing critter is a genius.

There is a concept of growth mindset vs. fixed mindset. It is clear from the numbers that Wikipedia (as a corporation) is still growing.

    Another one missing the point.
