Tuesday, April 16, 2024: Holy Smokes
- Preshave: Proraso Green Preshave
- Brush: Chisel & Hound Blaireau de la République with 24mm G5 Synthetic
- Razor: Thiers-Issard 188 7/8 'Coq et Renard’
- Lather: Abbate y La Mantia Marduk with Southern Witchcraft Valley of Ashes frankensoap
- Postshave: Naissance 702 Witch Hazel
- Postshave: Floid The Genuine
- Postshave: Nivea After Shave Balm
How awsome would it be if I could combine the refreshing summer scent of Marduk with the smokiness of VoA? Not so much. VoA killed the head notes of Marduk, without contributing much to the scent. Scentwise, a total loss. The structure of the lather improved though: the lather looked better and made very satisfying spikes with the brush. Unfortunately, slickness was not as good as with Marduk alone. All in all, it was not worth it. So don’t.
Have a good evening!

Apr 16, 2024 - Tea Tuesday: Kensei
Image
Kensei opens very similarly to Musashi, but the notes in the dry down are where Kensei departs from is counterpart and really comes into it’s own.
I was reminded this morning that the C4 base is outstanding!

I’ve been looking at this one. GN touts it as a sort of follow up for Musashi. What’s your take on a comparison?

It’s part of GN’s Origins series, which is supposed to feature “a fragrance developed around a single note or accord.”
My initial reaction was that they are too similar, but after the shave, I think I came around to it being a distinct, complex scent. I probably need to do a shave with both products side-by-side to get a better perspective.
