  so ppl say we need to "do something" about gun violence

  so what's the "something" people should do, according to conservatives?

  arm yourself? increase security measures some place?

  if these people don't have something constructive to do, then "doing something" for them will be lobbying to ban guns

    Realistically, doing something about gun violence isn't going to look like banning guns.

    Honestly, it's a bit like drugs. You can ban drugs because people get addicted to drugs, but people get addicted to drugs for reasons bigger than the existence of drugs. It's because people don't have something better to do than do drugs.

    There's a reason why shootings happen, and it's more complicated than that weapons exist.

    But these people are first order thinkers; they see a problem and they want to ban the visible elements of the problem rather than make the problem go away.
