Long term, the population of earth does need to shrink. Eventually we're not gonna have any new resources, and we're gonna have to figure out how to live with just what we can recycle or create using what we've already built.
OTOH, it isn't clear that eventually is today.
We waste 40% of our food. Theoretical estimates of how many people the Earth can support range from 10 Billion to 1 Trillion.
Anyway, by 2100 China will have ~590 M (losing 800M), India ~1B (losing 400M), Europe ~600M, according to UN projections.
China started losing population since 1990, when it went below replacement rate of 2.1 kids per woman. India plateaued this year. In 4 years Indian population will start falling. West - USA, Germany etc went below replacement in 1970. West has been declining for 50 years, propped up by immigration.
Africa will grow. UN projects they will platueau in 2100, but UN are morons. Rate of urbanisation is high. Their infant mortality and pop will likely plateau sooner

We are headed to a collapse but its like 70 years away.
