Sometimes I have a hard time dealing with the stupidity I see out of some people.

"Virtual babies" during a population crisis would be like "Virtual food" during a famine. It isn't the same thing, and your brain knows full well it isn't the same thing.

Babies are a pain in the ass. They wake you up all night for months, they need attention pretty much all the time, you're always having to worry about their safety today and how they're going to grow up tomorrow, and every bit of it is worth it because you know your child is going to grow up someday and reflect the effort you put into them.

You can't virtualize that. They've tried. Even if you manage to skinner box your way into addicting someone to a virtual pet, they're not real. You know they're not real. They can be a perfect simulation, and it doesn't matter, they're not real.

There's also biological processes that make them not the same. Even holding someone else's baby isn't the same as holding your own. Your brain wires itself to make you a mother or a father. You're not the same person you were before the baby was conceived.

It should be obvious, except these people gave up on the parts that make them human...
