bro, thanks for this. never knew you could exclude apps from being killed for memory like that. might keep my headunitreloaded from crashing.
Comment on My VPN on Android fails to reconnect automatically any time the connection is interupted. Why?

Ahh
Settings > Devicd Care > Memory > Excluded apps > tap “+” add the VPN. This should make sure the system doesn’t kill the VPN when its out of ram.
Then go to app info (just long tap app icon and tap the (i) button), go to battery, tap “Unrestricted”. Also helps prevent app being killed, but this option is for battery reasons as opposed to the other one which is for ram reasons.
Also, if you haven’t already, give permission for notifications so it can stay active.
How much ram do you have anyway?
If its a A1x or weaker device, that could be an issue. I once had an A03s crashing all the time.
I currently have a Galaxy A35 running ProtonVPN (paid tier) all the time, it always stays connected no problems, I always set those settings described above.

Sorry for pulling you back to an old thread, but you wouldn’t happen to have any other ideas, would you? Since before, I’ve tried everything you suggested. Its an A53, so it really shouldn’t be having trouble with memory or such.
I also found this older Reddit thread which describes basically the same thing, but all the comments are removed, if that helps: old.reddit.com/…/connectivity_issues_with_new_pho…

Perhaps the official app has issues.
Some VPN providers have wireguard protocol. (I think nordvpn does)
Search “[VPN Provider] Wireguard” for info.
Usually you log in to the account on the website, you choose some servers then create a configuration file.
Then you find any app that can create a Wireguard tunnel. There are many open source ones on F-Droid. Import the configuration file in the app and you have a VPN. I use “Rethink DNS” which has both a Firewall and VPN via Wireguard (and various other features). If one doesn’t work, just try another, there like 3 different wireguard apps at least.
