Can’t wait for all the self driving taxis to become self aware…

Hate to break (not technically it’s fault) it to you
(I get your point though. I think self driving cars fucking up is a lot scarier to some people, though, because it can’t “think” or rationalise, and no matter what it does, it won’t make a human decision unless a human is actively controlling it (which kinda defeats the purpose). Also, in most cases, whatever company made, maintained, or runs the robot car won’t ever be held liable for anything that it does, which also means that if your Mum is mowed down by a self driving taxi, you’ll never get that sense of justice. Mistakes always happen, but it’s just scarier when the ordinarily perfect machine is the one getting it wrong. That’s my theory anyway)

Yeah, I was being a bit facetious(?) with my comment. I was just thinking how things might look in NY (or elsewhere) in the future if all the taxis were self driving. And then that got me going down the Terminator path where they became self aware, and decided the humans were the problem…
I get that self driving cars can be a lot better than a human driver - faster reaction times, never sleepy or drunk/drugged etc.
Like you say, though, it feels really weird to think about what it would be like when a self driving car makes a mistake. Even for something trivial, eg say a robot car ran into the back of me at a traffic light. “OK, how do I get his drivers license?” 🤔
