I‘m kind of tipping over into cybersec through my job as an admin for hire and it system engineer. I‘m self taught in app development, systems administration and currently working on bringing new linux OSs to former proprietary devices. I did a couple of tiers on hackthebox and will be attending 38c3 as my first congress.
I wonder how to proceed as a self employed „mercenary“ who wants to work for small businesses. I do think doing security stuff like pen tests would be good. Any ideas? :)

You’ll need technical chops sure, but the hard part imo is finding the gigs. For that, good ol’ fashioned networking. Start a blog, build a portfolio, network with folks and take work where you can find it. Good luck and happy new year!
