I like Maher, but he definitely doesn't have a track record of supporting fellow guild members.
But he won't lose much, he's rich and probably at the tail end of his career tbh. There aren't a lot of future benefits he'll be missing out on if he's kicked out of SAG or the WGA.

I also think his more extreme views make him tough to cast for larger roles, nowadays.

I don't find his views extreme, nor do I think that perception would keep him from getting roles (Chris Pratt and Zachary Levi have been able to get roles, for example). But I don't think he wants to act at all. Wouldn't be shocked to see him want to write though.
