Why don’t you just write “children” instead of 'child(ren)" since this really isn’t relevant if it’s an only child receiving everything.

Sorry, I know can be annoying to read that, but its meant as a general question, rather than for a specific circumstance. The singular with plural modifiers in parentheses is what people typically use when the question/statement is not limited to meant only to apply if its that specific scenario with the specific singular/plural noun.
