Baku@aussie.zone āØ1ā© āØweekā© agoA plain pie, beef pie or beef mince pie is wrong. Itās a mince pie.

A lot of places just call basic mince pies āplain pieā or similar which I donāt mind all too much

They do indeed. So do Australians - check out colesworth. The original āmince pieā would have had beef or pork mince in it. It was a protein/sugar/vitamin blast reserved for celebrating the 12 days of Christmas (which go from Christmas Eve to 6th January) before the peasants went back to eating pottage only until Easter. Its a small pie that can be made in quantity and handed out to all an sundry to celebrate the holy season. Which was a thin Christian layer over a much older tradition of celebrating the darkest coldest time of the year with fire and good food and good company.
