  In an ideal world it would be great if we could say to people “hey, maybe you shouldn’t be a dick to people on the Internet” but that’s the same as trying to say “maybe you shouldn’t steal from people” instead of buying a burglar alarm.

      Did I say that? I said you can never prevent it completely, so you still need to protect people as well as educating people.

  Yeah, the problem is the people being abused on the internet, not the people doing the abusing. They just need to not be on the internet, so they won’t get abused!

    Maybe you should read the entire section of the article which details the percentages of those who have reported levels of different types of abuse online, since you seemed to have missed it.
