Go back to caveman days. The people who had strong family bonds were more likely to work together and get through the bad times. The people who struck out on their own weren’t going to survive long enough to reproduce.

Thousands of generations later we still have the same desire to keep in touch with the people who raised us, even if it’s no longer a relevant survival strategy.
