  I wouldn’t mind living in the philipines as a retirement option. On $1000 usd a month you would live in a high middle class situation, you could very easily as an old single man at 65 find a wife in her early 20s that will love the fuck out of you, give you children and be loyal to your dying day, they are good catholic girls over there. Just be wary of the city chicks but the mountain girls and country girls are generally pretty good, many are virgins or only had one guy

    That's overkill. 1000$ is middle class in central europe, 2-3k is middle class in west europe, 600-1000$ Ukraine/Russia (lol), <600$ in South Asia. Engineers fresh from Uni make 300-600$ in S Asia cities. If you are planning to live outside the city, I am guessing ~400$ for a good life and a decent house rental.

    Just so you know, no S Asian wants to live outside the cities, they are just too poor to move. On the other hand, foreigners really love Asian rural areas. You are not the first person I know who is retiring this way. A work colleague saved for 2 years then retired to villages in Burma.

        Lololol. They are not all nuts. The 'light' muslim countries are more like China/Korea in terms of culture and no religious drama. They will have other issues like govt, shitty economics, crime, anti-US sentiment, cultural hangups... like everywhere in the world.

        Indonesia is very religious muslim. Thais, Cambodians, Burmese are meat eating buddhists. Fillipinos are pretty chill christians. Vietnamese, Laos are a mix, but moderately religious. Malaysians are 60% muslim, moderately religious. Indians are 15-20% muslim, moderately religious. Sri Lanka has 10% muslim, moderately religious.

      Ukraine is much poorer than Russia.

      But yeah these numbers are generally accurate.

      It's actually possible to live in some south Indian cities on a hundred USD a month and not have problems. Throw in tech and you can do OK on two hundred a month.

        I hire Ukrainian freelancers for my employer. Salaries for engineers were higher in Ukraine before. We had some Belarussians and Russians, but they moved to EU. I asked about their salaries back home a few years ago, and the difference was 5-10%. At the time Russians were suffering low oil prices and Crimean sanctions.

        Middle class Indian salary in a tier 2 city is 400-500$ with single working parent. 100$ won't make you very happy. Its mainly because Indians speak English as their mother tongue. Caused an explosion in call center/IT jobs since 2000, leading to a huge increase in GDP, similar to China's manufacturing boom. At that time, 100$ would be a lot.
