sj_zero@lotide.fbxl.net 2 years agoI still feel like "the right" currently consists of most of "the left" from when I was a kid. The only reason a lot of people haven't realized it yet is inertia.
I think there's going to be large consequences when people realize the change has occurred. In the US, it might be happening right now.
Growing up I thought I was moderate left, i.e. first trim. abortion, gay marriage, prison like housing and meals for homeless, but state rights, no foreign wars, no handouts
Today that is late term murder, BLM racists, Antifa riots, Teachers trannying kids, human experimentation, WW III... the hell happened in just 15 years !
I feel the exact same. Some of my opinions have changed around a little, but fundamentally not really. Despite that, I've gone from being basically on the left with some fiscal conservative thrown in for good measure, to being constantly called a far right racist sexist misogynistic Russian American transphobic homophobic Nazi.

It must be either genetic or lack of time. Either folk are biologically predisposed to follow the herd or the independent minded have hands full with family, work etc and don't have time to read what's actually happening.

I think most people generally want to leave others alone, and there's a minority of people who very deeply want to control others. I think that that's where the current divide is. You have the people on the left who want to control every single person write down to their thoughts, and you have everybody else who just want to live their life and don't really care how others live. I still think that way, but I can absolutely see why people who keep on getting pushed around eventually just go "forget it, I'm cutting this off"

I'm not dedicating time to explain in detail what is posted on this very site many times. You refuse to do the research because you do not want to see anything that might unseat your view of the world.

The pre-1960s Right was real, and most Right-wing voters support that, but they have not had a candidate for decades.
