And the wonderful thing is, it makes no difference either way whether you downvoted or not. Well, unless you secretly upvoted me, which would make a difference.

But comments and posts would still be ranked by upvotes and downvotes wouldn’t they? Or does this instance only rank by upvote?

Any timeline viewed via an instance that has disabled downvotes doesn’t factor downvotes in when calculating position rank. They just get ignored.
In my experience, that’s exactly what it means. Sure, they have practical value in theory, but in practice, they’re weaponised against trans folk, neuro divergent folk, and many others that wear their differences openly, and given that this is a trans focused instance, it’s just not worth dealing with the bigots downvotes
