interesting post because I wanted to post and ask how we could help the homeless

one person I know suggested we make brochures of all the services available to such people so that they can make use of what services are available

I was thinking that nonprofits could be formed as a force like police that, if a homeless person is spotted, a trained official of sorts could go and reach out to them, offering them transportation to a shelter or other things.

Problem with some existing nonprofits that help homeless is, I think they are authoritarian. This is maybe a "libertarian" critique I had of them. Like I don't care if certain homeless people are drug addicts, necessarily - I do care and want them to be off drugs, but it is not necessary for solving their homeless problem. There are people with homes that are drug addicts, so it is a separate problem to me. But some homeless shelters I think try to police their drug use, which may be well intentioned, but then these homeless people then turn away from these groups, and don't get the needed help.

On a related note, I have experienced this kind of thing with a ton of random interest hobby groups. Lots of requirements I have no interest in fulfilling, so I end up avoiding the group. I think homeless face the same issue, so I think part of solving the homeless problem requires allowing them more freedom to be themselves.

I think there are also incentives for society to help the homeless, for those who aren't interested in the altruistic motivation of helping them: more profits to society, less crime, more innovation, more friends, etc. - not ever homeless person is irresponsible but may have fallen in to difficulties they had trouble planning for.

It is disgusting these politicians are so out of touch with the cost of rents and how they carelessly dismiss homeless people to the streets when they are seeking some shelter.
