Mine is blue, and I took a knife and cut out the rubber clit nub. If you do that, you can pop a PSP replacement joystick right on with zero effort, it just snaps right on! It works SO MUCH better than the rubber clit.
Also install CFW if you haven’t! I love my N3DSXL.

Oh absolutely!
I followed 3ds.hacks.guide and it took me the better part of a day. Maybe six hours. The the WEEK AFTER I HACKED IT (this was maybe seven years ago?) they released a MUCH EASIER HACK. it took me under an hour to hack my partner’s 3DS.
I did my PSP joystick mod when Monster Hunter Generations came out. Oh god that was like eight years ago now… you can see it and find a video someone made recently here: gbatemp.net/…/modding-new-3ds-xl-with-psp-1000-an…
I was scared to do it because what if it went badly? But nah, snipping out the clit nub was super easy and I had a spare PSP… the PSP joystick snapped RIGHT on and suddenly I had infinitely more control over my camera in games! I was sooooo happy.
