Or sandy hook, a Florida high school, a Texas Walmart, a Las Vegas concert, a Pittsburgh Synagogue, or a church in Texas?

Wasn’t the synagogue a pistol?
In any case, it’s the most popular rifle in America, just by sheer rate it’s going to be used more.
Most gun homicides are done with handguns. This is completely off topic, unless you think mass shooting victims are the only real victims or something.

It’s going to be used more for many reasons beyond simply being “popular”:

It’s literally designed to kill people. Not hunt, not for sport. For killing.
It’s one thing to defend yourself with a gun, I’m not advocating for getting rid of all guns or stopping people from owning a gun. I am however, for a ban on guns designed to kill large amounts of people in a short amount of time, especially when it has been the tool for every mass shooting that has bigger death counts than any others prior to AWB.

The most commonly available rifle is the one most commonly used? Shocking!

You’re starting to get it. The most commonly available rifle, which was designed to kill many people in a short time, is the weapon of choice for large-scale shootings.
Therefore, I support banning them.
