paddirn@lemmy.world 10 months agoCommenter gives a logical answer with information that is probably well-known for a good chunk of the world (Spanish speakers), yet it’s somehow still mind-blowing. Like “whoah, that’s where that came from!”

In Spanish you have one tamal but two tamales. In English you have one tamale, two tamales. We incorrectly removed the pluralization from tamales and now we have this hybrid word, tamale.
