Yeah, I feel like there needs to be much clearer messaging how to cover the costs, which is to say tax the rich. Here in Germany, a third of the wealth is owned by the richest 1% of the population. Whereas 1.3% of the wealth is owned by the poorer half of the population.
Meanwhile, poor people vote for populist parties, because those give them an answer, which is that <insert marginalized group> is at fault.
Which is, of course, inhumane, a logical fallacy and non-sense, as those have barely any money themselves. But when you need a solution, it’s still a better answer than none.

I agree. To many are happy to think its somebody else’s fault and that “our children will pay for me”.
Another hurdle, and nobody likes to admit it, is that a whole lot of the emissions stem from the wants and needs of the people. Not the wealth in itself. So the responsibility falls differently than the wealth distribution.
Make no mistake, We need to be better at taxing wealth, with all it’s unwanted social and economic effects and disregard for the ecological ones, but it might prove trickier than expected.
