Comment on Newsom proposes defunding police, prisons, public safety as California faces massive deficit
BobaFuttbucker@reddthat.com 5 months agoI don’t need to post a counter cite a 0.6% is nothing.
Omg it must be so hard to have money. You should just give it away if you’re sick of paying all those taxes.
Hahaha I know the 8% figure you’re talking about and it’s not that. The people who have been put into for-prisons in the past 2 years make up 8% of the imprisoned population, or about 13.5x the rate of people who left Oregon.
Don’t be so quick to call others wrong when you are too hahahah.

Private for-profit prisons incarcerated 90,873 American residents in 2022, representing 8% of the total state and federal prison population. Since 2000, the number of people housed in private prisons has increased 5%.

Hahaa you just confirmed I was right.
Now break it down by state. Your previous Florida is up to 14%, a 200% increase in the same time frame.
In fact, most the states with the highest stats are red states.

No, the article very clearly shows you are wrong.
You said the majority of prisoners were going to private prisons. That is false.
BobaFuttbucker@reddthat.com 5 months ago
Going, not are. The number is growing and in many states it’s hitting a majority.
You are confusing an upward trend for a static figure.
