  To be clear, this doesn’t necessarily mean “get diagnosed for depression” either.

  No, as others have suggested, get a blood test.

  Accelerating depression was surprisingly a symptom of my cancer. It can also be a symptom of something far more serious than just depression.

    This is very poor wording. Depression is one of the deadliest illnesses in young people.
